Vacationing at SANDALS – Should You Book It?

If you’re wondering if you should stay at a SANDALS resort, you have to come to the right place.

Let’s start off with the basics.

  • Sandals is an all inclusive resort, meaning you could leave your wallet at home (don’t actually do this), as you don’t have to pay individually for drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), meals, non-motorized sports, and entertainment – it’s all included under one price.
  • Sandals has 16 resorts in 6 countries: Jamaica, Bahamas, Antigua, Grenada, St. Lucia and Barbados and the experience varies in each resort.
  • Sandals are adult only – no kids allowed. No worries of a crying infant while you’re on your dream vacation, as Sandals excels in keeping the ambiance of romance throughout the resort.
  • Selecting your room matters. You could spend as little as $199 per night or as high as $2,000 a night – it all depends on the room and the amenities that come along with that package. Rooms vary by size, location, or whether it has a bath tub with massaging jets for two – choose wisely.
  • All resorts are not made equally. Negril is known for its beautiful nine mile beaches while if you go closer to Montego Bay, their beaches are small – in fact, there is a rope that encloses how far you can swim out.
  • Read reviews and then read some more reviews. My best piece of advice would be to figure out what kind of vacation you want and purchase accordingly. (Do you want the best room, the best beach or both? Do you want to experience an over water bungalow? Do you want to be close to the airport? Do you want the most affordable Sandals resort?)
  • If you’re a big foodie, compromise on some of your expectations. Typically, when food is mass produced it is not as flavorful as a restaurant that sources local food and makes everything from scratch.
  • Butler service is a VIP service offered at every Sandals resort, which entails you getting a local cell phone to have all your dinner reservations made for you, snacks sent to your room, and beach chairs reserved by the pool/beach for you).
  • Keep in mind that prices will be cheaper during hurricane season, but you may not enjoy your vacation as much.
  • The more days you stay, the cheaper your nightly rate will be. Check Sandals.com regularly for deals, typically around holidays or promotional seasons.
  • I recommend Sandals for a 3-4 night as a great weekend getaway from the States; however, if you’re traveling from Europe, Africa, or Asia – I would recommend at least one week.
