Johannesburg, South Africa – The View Boutique Hotel
First off, this place is a mansion.
The View Boutique Hotel is a gated property located on a hill in Auckland Park, a suburb of Johannesburg with rich history. It’s absolutely stunning and known for its gardens and panoramic views of the city.
I was pleasantly greeted by staff and check-in was effortless. After traveling 24+hours, all I wanted was a good night’s rest and some comfort food. I was blown away by the fine dining experience offered. If you’re a foodie, this place is a must. During my stay, I walked around the floral and herb gardens. I spotted some arugula and basil – fresh ingredients that would be hand-picked for the dining experience later that evening.
Speaking of food – it was delicious.
Grilled halloumi (Cypriot cheese) – served with basil bruschetta and marinated arugula leaves
Main – Stuffed chicken breast – olives and chervil, atop roast butternut and potato shoe laces
Dessert – Peppermint Chocolate Mousse
Every item exceeded expectations and crafted with care. After dinner, I took my nightcap to the suite and spent the remaining of the evening in the bathtub.
I stayed in the Jeppe’s suite.A bit of history: Sir Julius Jeppe is known for his pioneering role in the development of Johannesburg, from mining to real estate. He arranged the building of this mansion for his daughter and now it’s been renovated into a six room boutique hotel.
I appreciate the attention to detail. Inside my suite: fridge with chilled beverages, coffee/tea set with cookies, and even a flat iron/blow dryer in the vanity dresser. The property maintains its history and South African charm, but the bathrooms are completely renovated to modern standards. The best part of the experience was the shower and the bathtub, that can easily fit two people. I got my best night’s rest of my entire South African trip at the view and woke up completely relaxed the following day.

I highly recommend this property as an event space. The gardens can hold up to 120+ guests for a wedding or birthday party. If you’re looking for a couple’s getaway or a great start to your trip in South Africa, you won’t regret staying at the View.
